View Copying and Moving Components with the Clipboard

Return to MonkeyStyler

The Components Editor includes a clipboard for cutting, copying and pasting components and trees of components.

You can copy components with an element, into another element in the same file, or into an element in a different file.

The clipboard is a useful time saver when you want similar or identical components within different elements. You could, for example, copy a TPath or TImage to re-use them in a new element. Or copy animations where you want to use the same ones for different controls.

Another use is to move components around within an element. For instance if you have added a component at the wrong position in the tree.

The component clipboard can contain a single component or an entire tree of components, containing a component and all it's children, their children and so on.

The Cut and Copy buttons both copy the currently selected component and all it's children to the clipboard.

The Paste button copies the current contents of the clipboard as a new child of the currently selected component. All the properties of pasted components will be copied faithfully, but you may need to change some, such as the StyleName, to prevent name clashes.
